A few things first | When asked to describe this episode, I’ll say this: A brilliant season cliffhanger built around a contrived plotline that stole from other shows with a cliched ending that mirrors season three but failed to hit the mark on almost every level and isn’t worthy of the typical Milmar flair. Now, I didn’t hate the episode. But I didn’t like it either. In terms of where it ranks for the season, it’s a step above “Law & Boarder.” That said, overall, if social media reaction mirrors the real viewer reaction, there will be some serious damage control. But the biggest takeway from this episode? ABC signed off on this episode. Remember that.

We need to stop patting them on the back | Almost immediately between the “I hate yous” and “I’ll never watch again” there was a contingent of those fans who patted Milmar on the back mixed in with the “you know who the real Castle fans are, stopping hating the finale.” The reason why we get episode such as this is because we’re afraid to call the show’s producers to task. Time and time again they come up with poor storylines with contrived and cliched plots and we continue to ignore them because the episode has Casketty goodness. Perhaps this is the episode that broke the camel’s back. It’s time to demand a fresh take on the boilerplate storylines. By the way, Bones did the destroyed wedding venue in October—nice to know Milmar is still ripping off the FOX show. Perhaps FOX should sue for royalties.

No case but that wouldn’t have made a difference | So the seemingly bright and intelligent Kate Beckett ran off with some mooch to Vegas where during a drunken night they got hitched. Thanks for making Beckett out to be foolish and dumb. I didn’t consider Watershed character assassination last season. But I consider this episode character assassination. Totally unfunny. And the first “husband” reference was funny. Everything after that was just stupid and annoying.

You get some free passes but not on this | This episode proves that Milmar doesn’t care about anything because everything has to fit their plot. My point? The NYPD does background checks, this would have turned up. The FBI did background checks, this would have turned up. My point? Nothing they say about characters in the past or anything they say has any sort of merit. No wonder why people felt Beckett was capable of torture in “Veritas.”

No one ever expected it to be easy | No one expected their trip to the altar to be easy. I expected some hijinx and some antics along the way. But this? Just sad. For the record, I don’t think Castle was in the car. If I had to guess, this has 3XK written all over it and we’ll pick up that thread in the fall.

Normally I don’t agree with the fans who tweet complaints | … to the cast and crew of Castle. But I find myself in agreeance with some of them. And normally I throw those obnoxious fans under the bus but this time? I’m willing to give them some leeway because quite frankly? The more we the fans continue to accept this type of episode, they more they’ll continue to do it. It’s time to rise up and say: We’re not going to fall for this.

A final few thoughts | There are none. Let this episode stand or fall on its own. See you in the fall.
