Castle takes on a routine P.I. case, but the investigation turns deadly when he witnesses a murder
“I, Witness” – Castle is hired to uncover if a client’s husband is having an affair, but the case takes a shocking turn when Castle witnesses the client’s murder – by her husband. But with no proof that the killing took place, Castle and Beckett must investigate to expose the truth, on “Castle,” MONDAY, FEBRUARY 2 (10:01-11:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.
Ratings for Private Eye Caramba up over previous week
The ratings for “Private Eye Caramba” were up a tenth over the Jan. 19 episode posting a 1.5 for the night with 7.60 million viewers. in terms of year-to-year the show was down 20.2 percent and 15.8 percent respectively. The season six episode “Deep Cover” did a 1.9 with just over 9 million viewers.
Castle remains at 83% of all over shows on ABC and is still in good position for renewal. Remember, a show isn’t renewed until the network gives the official renewal notice. It’s unlikely that ABC would cancel four dramas in one season which is why the show is likely renewed for at least one more season, pending actor contracts.
Comparing the season premiere “Driven” with the most recent episode “Private Eye Caramba” Castle has dropped 28.6 percent in demo and 27.6 percent in viewers.
Just for kicks, the numbers of NCIS: LA which ran pretty much third place for the first half of the season until NBC booted The Blacklist and put in the under-performing State of Affairs, the navy cop show has dropped 21.1 percent in the demo but has boosted slightly in audience about 1.1 percent. NCIS: LA and The Blacklist split the male audience during the first half. The show will probably switch off with Castle until NBC brings in the medical drama The Night Shift in late February. It averaged about a 1.4 with 6.59 million viewers during the summer. Hard to say which way it’ll go going up against established shows. It probably won’t do any worse than State of Affairs.
Things to keep in mind: Castle and The Bachelor aren’t compatible shows so the ratings are always slightly lower than the season average which is 1.67 right now. When Dancing with the Stars returns in March, the show will probably tick up a bit to the 1.6 to 1.8 range in demo. But that’s dependent on a strong cast for Dancing with the Stars. If the cast is weak or if people aren’t into it the ratings will be lower, thereby affecting Castle.
Of course, there’s always the argument that why doesn’t ABC move the show off of Mondays. The problem is that one, ABC has nothing to replace it with it and two, Castle wouldn’t benefit from a move to another night. It relies too much on the lead-in even at this stage of the series life.
