Ratings for “Witness for the Prosecution”
Castle and the special Valetine’s Day airing did the show no favors. With a traditionally weak lead-in which mustered a 1.0 and 4.04 million viewers in The Bachelor anniversary special, Castle front a .8 and 4.09 million viewers. Good news is, it grew in the final hour but still ended up under one for a series low.
I will use the “fan excuse” bingo card and put my chips on: it aired on a Sunday and not on its traditional night.
Promoting wasn’t the problem. If you bothered to watch the show last Monday (Feb. 8) and the credits leading up to the 11 p.m., then you knew it was airing Sunday. If you watch ABC programming, chances are you saw a commercial (ABC aired more than the usually do). If you follow social media, then you probably knew. The show was, for better or worse, promoted more for these two episodes than they have the past couple of seasons for just one episode.
