Life imitating art? Castle creator Andrew Marlowe is in the early stages of developing a series based on a fictional character created for another fictional character that’s featured in the popular procedural Castle. Marlowe and ABC are developing a series based on the PI turned spy Derrick Storm.
Marlowe will executive produce along with his wife, Terri Miller, while Gregory Poirer will write the pilot and will also serve as executive producer if it goes to series. Poirer created and EP’d the ABC drama Missing starring Ashley Judd during the 2011-2012 season.
The Derrick Storms books were first introduced in Castle‘s pilot in which Castle killed Storm off because he was board. The popularity of the Nikki Heat books coupled with the success of the show prompted Castle (er, ABC) to resurrect the dead spy. The books have become best-sellers right along side the Heat books.
News sources say this series isn’t considered a spin-off of Castle. But it’s definitely a fun way to continue the Castle legacy in a meta-weird so of way.
But, who’s to argue if ABC wouldn’t backdoor Storm in an episode of Castle? Maybe they’ve already have? Hmmm….
Castle is currently filming its seventh season in Los Angeles which will premiere Sept. 29th on ABC.
If you haven’t checked out the Derrick Storm novels and graphic novels, here’s a listing of a few of the novels that are available.
