“The Rookie” bumped to Sundays on ABC

THE ROOKIE - "Free Fall" - As the rookies prepare for a big exam to see who moves on to the next stage of training, Officer Nolan and Officer Bishop are called to the scene of a murder and learn that the victim may be tied to a potential terrorist attack on the city of Los Angeles, on the season finale of "The Rookie," airing TUESDAY, APRIL 16 (10:00-11:00 p.m. EDT), on The ABC Television Network. ABC is rolling the dice with The Rookie and is moving it to Sunday’s at 10 p.m. with Shark Tank as a lead-in. ABC is rolling out one of its few pick-ups of the season Emergence in the Tuesday at 10 p.m. slot.

In other words, The Rookie will spend half the season going up against football and the other half preempted because of award shows.

Given the lack of new shows ABC picked up and the renewal of some of its weaker (not all) shows, it makes sense to give The Rookie a new slot hoping the people who watch Shark Tank are in the right demo lead-in for the series.

So what is Emergence?

From ABC PR:

A character-driven genre thriller, “Emergence” is about a police chief who takes in a young child she finds near the site of a mysterious accident who has no memory of what has happened. The investigation draws her into a conspiracy larger than she ever imagined, and the child’s identity is at the center of it all.
